Definition of karma

The literal translation of the Sanskrit word Karma is action or deeds. Karma is an Indian religious concept that is based on the concept of action and reaction i.e. for every action a person does there is a reaction that will affect the person’s life in the same manner (good or bad) as the original intent of the original action.

This means if your action deed has good intentions you will have good effects of the action in your life. I your action was bad then you will have bad effects in your life in short karma theory is

“YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.”(Your deeds, good or bad, will repay you in same kind)

Karma is of three kinds

Good Karma

When you action or deeds had good intent then it is termed as good karma, this means that if you help a person for sake of genuinely helping and not because you had some other motives behind your action it will be termed as good karma.

Bad Karma

When you action or deeds have bad intent then it is termed as bad karma , this means your action deed was done with intent of harming or causing hurt to another person your action will be termed as bad karma.

Neutral Karma

When your action or deed was done as a duty and you had no emotions or intentions to that deed then the karma will be called neutral karma and will not affect you in any way.

Off all three it is advised to do neutral karma , actions that have no intentions good or bad attached to it and is done as a part performing a duty , a person who can free himself from the intentions and do action without seeking any kind or reward from the action performed will achieve salvation (moksha) i.e. will get free from the cycle of life and death

Karma is created in four ways

1. Through thoughts
2. Through words
3. Through actions that we perform ourselves
4. Through actions others do under our instructions

It is said that whatever we experience in our life is due to our karmas.

The effects of karma we experience in our life can be from our previous lives. This concept comes from the belief of death and rebirth (reincarnation) this means that the deeds you do in your current life may have their effect in any of your future lives. It also means   that whatever we are experiencing in our current life may be an effect from any our previous lives.

Karma theory further states that based on our karma we will attain heaven if our karmas or good and hell if our karmas our bad.

I completely disagree with theory of karma of carrying the burden of your deeds till infinity, furthermore I fail to understand that if my karma will make me attain hell or heaven then why I will be punished or rewarded again in my next life. To me it is an easy escape created to blame the failure of the person on karma. The concept of receiving punishment for previous life karma is illogical .Read my post on why we have problems in life for further reference.

In my experience I have seen many cases where bad luck or misfortune was being generated from a person’s surroundings i.e. home, office, and factory and once the root cause of the problem was corrected the problems evaporated.
